Better blogging platforms and designs
Ever since WP took a dive on me a few weeks ago (and I had to come back to my even more defaulty look) I’ve had a bit of a disinterest in blogging. Which makes me sad, because I want to do it more. I think so much of has to do with the style and design of a blog that I’m just not pleased with my current look. I’ll take it one step further though…
Back in the old days I started using something called Newspro (I think newer incarnations are called Coranato or something along those lines). Then there was Greymatter, which I used for quite some time, followed by b2 and now WordPress since it was in beta. I haven’t really looked at other platforms very much. Does any one have any other recommendations of platforms that are worth checking out? Chances are I’ll stick with WP due to my familiarity, but one this is for certain: This design has got to go.
I think of the blogs I visit Dan Rubin’s has to be my favorite design. I think tonight I’m going to need to break out the bar napkins and a pen and doodle some ideas down.

The number one reason for me not updating my site is the fact that I don’t like how it looks and I don’t have enough time to work on it like I would like to.
Dan Rubin’s site is great looking. I like Jason Kottke’s as well. So fresh and so clean.

Agreed. His is also a bit of an inspiration. I know it’s all about the content, but to some degree you need to feel at home where you blog so that you are comfortable enough to write.

Indeed. I’d like to get away from the layout I’ve assimilated, but until I get the time, it suffices. DR’s is nice; simple yet appealing. I had a similar design worked out awhile back but it went horizontally. Never got it implimented, though.

Thanks for the nod, always nice to know the things I do for my own personal enjoyment bring some sort of “joy” to others
That said, I just redesigned again (that one in April was to get used to WordPress really…), and this new design is something I’m much happier with, though I have a feeling it will be met with mixed reactions…
The important thing to remember is that your blog is *your* playground, not anyone else’s — if people like what you have to say, but not how you present it, they can use a newsreader

Thanks for stopping by! I actually like the new design quite a bit. It’s clean, orange, and well organized, so it fits with my aesthetic quite well. I will say since this post though I’ve managed to get a few good ideas down on paper, now it’s just a matter of finding the time to work on a couple mockups.
