WordPress 2.0 is out!

WordPress has gone to 2.0. I'm one of those crazy early adopters so I've installed it and tweaked it slightly to my satisfaction. First of all I can say 2.0 has lots of improvements. A couple small CSS glitches were in the release that I corrected for myself because I'm just that anal, but all in all it was an extremely painless to upgrade.

The new post editor is pretty slick. AJAX-y WYSIWYG-y what not flash is all over this thing. I definitely like it. Feels pretty snappy and natural too. Reminds me slightly of the GMail WYSIWYG editor. Other little nice touches like info messages displayed using AJAX when you update options and settings.

They've also fixed a bug regarding category archives that was bothering me, but unfortunately there still seems to be an issue with displaying posts based on a number of days, rather than number of posts. Ideally I could just display one day's worth of posts on any given page, but for some reason when you set it to one day of posts, the previous and next links disappear. I might have to sit down and fix this one myself.

But in general this thing is great. I encourage everyone who uses WP to upgrade when they get a few free minutes, because that's all the time it takes.

  1. AJAXy? WYSIWYGy?

    What I see is a question – y?

  2. …and the front page still seems to be under the impression that there are no comments…

  3. Guess that’s what they call a bug. Hooray for early adoption!

    Oh and,
AJAX – Asynchronus Java and XML
WYSYWIG – What You See is What You Get

Edit: Seems to have caught up now. I’ll keep an eye on this issue.

  4. I think I’ve found the issue. I use SpamKarma 2 to help block spam, and there was a small incompatability between WP2 and SK2 relating to the comment count not being updated properly. I’ve installed a temporary fix til they patch SK2, so hopefully all should be well now.
